Meet Our Members for the 2014-2015 Program Year
Rebecca is making the short trip from Durand, WI to serve at the Eau Claire County Health Department. She holds a degree from Carthage College (Kenosha, WI) in Communications and Marketing and wants to take these skills into the non-profit sector.
Omoshalewa is a New Jersey native that became acclimated to the Milwaukee area during her time studying Biology at UW-Milwaukee. She will be serving at both the Milwaukee Area Health Education Center and Fight Asthma Milwaukee Allies and is excited to be doing public health oriented work in an urban environment.
A graduate of Gustavus Adolphus College (MN), Allie will be serving at the Children’s Health Alliance of Wisconsin (CHAW) in Milwaukee. She will be working on a variety of programs for CHAW including oral health, asthma, and reach out and read. Allie is originally from Waupaca, WI.
Shabreka returns to Milwaukee after serving with AmeriCorps VISTA in Seattle, WA last year. She is a graduate of Cardinal Stritch University with a major in English and creative writing. She will be serving at Progressive Community Health Centers building relationships within the community and increasing patient numbers at the health center as they transition into a new facility this winter.
Lynnsey graduated from UW-Madison with a double major of Psychology and Gender & Women Studies. She first learned about the HealthCorps program after completing a summer internship with the Rock County Health Department as part of the AHEC’s “CHIP” program. Lynnsey will be serving at the Winnebago County Health Department in Oshkosh working with their re:THINK coalition.
Ashley has been getting a sampling of the midwest after growing up in Tolono, IL and going to school at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. She will be spending this year serving at the Winnebago County Health Department and joined the HealthCorps because of the opportunity to participate in a health focused service program.
A native of Milton, WI, Kelsey will be serving at the Dane County Department of Human Services in Madison. She double majored in psychology and Spanish at Whitman College (WA) and is excited to be back in the badger state helping uninsured individuals enroll in health coverage.
Seth joins the HealthCorps program after spending part of his time last year enrolling individuals into health insurance plans as a certified application counselor. He will be doing similar work this year as he serves with Covering Kids and Families in Milwaukee. Seth graduated from Grinnell College (IA) with a major in chemistry and will be applying to medical school this fall.
A native of Sturtevant, WI, Kristin will be switching to life in northern Wisconsin as she serves this year at NorthLakes Community Clinic in Ashland. She is excited to gain exposure to a rural healthcare setting and assist patients in connecting with community resources. Kristin is a graduate of Cornell University (NY) with a major in human biology.
Ellen join the HealthCorps program after attending school and living in Colorado. She is a graduate of the University of Denver with a dual degree in psychology and biology and will be serving this year at Bridge Community Clinic in Wausau. She is looking forward to assisting an underserved population and providing them with healthy foods through Bridge’s community gardens.
Megan makes the short trip from Chilton, WI to serve at the Waushara County Health Department this year. She is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and majored in health promotion. Megan will be working to implement aspects of the community health improvement plan to build a healthier county.
Kristen joins the HealthCorps program after graduating from the University of Wisconsin with a double major in political science and international studies. She will be serving at the Children’s Health Alliance in Milwaukee and hopes this year long experience in public health will serve her well as she intends to pursue a graduate degree in public policy and public health.
A resident of Stevens Point, WI, Anthony will be serving his home community as he works with the Portage County Health Department this year. He will be devising and implementing programs to help address the top three health priorities in Portage County: obesity, AODA, and mental health. Anthony is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and majored in both political science and history.
A native of Lutsen, MN, Martina will be serving at Scenic Bluffs Community Health Center in Cashton. Martina did her undergraduate studies at the University of Minnesota-Duluth and holds a Masters of Public Health from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. She wants this year with the Wisconsin HealthCorps program to provide her with hands on experience with which to apply her education.
After spending last year as an AmeriCorps member in Chicago providing support services to the homeless, Sharon will be serving this year with the Kenosha Community Health Center. She holds a degree in organizational management from North Park University (IL) and is a Chicago native.
Marisela joins the HealthCorps program after serving as an AmeriCorps NCCC member based out of St. Louis. She is originally from Sheboygan, WI and graduated from nearby Lakeland College with a degree in biology. Marisela will be serving at the Kenosha Community Health Center and is looking forward to gaining experience in the health care field.
Alicya join the HealthCorps program after finishing her degree in biology from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. She will be serving at Scenic Bluffs Community Health Center in Cashton, WI helping both the medical and dental departments implement patient centered medical home processes. She is a native of Stillwater, MN.
Originally from Troy, MI, Erica will be serving at the Marinette County Health Department. She is a graduate of Michigan State University with a degree in human biology. Erica will be helping individuals in Marinette County enroll in health insurance coverage and also coordinating outreach efforts around the health department’s community health improvement plan.
Ryan joins the HealthCorps program after graduating from the University of Wisconsin with a degree in biology. He is a Madison native that will be serving at Partnership Community Health Center in Appleton this year. Ryan will be assisting the health center with their outreach and enrollment efforts by planning events and educating and enrolling consumers.
